Yesterday I went into town and the two gas stations I frequent accross the street from each other had a great disparity in price... one was $2.71 per gallon, the other was $2.81. I was in a hurry so I did not stop at the $2.71 to fill up, but I said to myself, I better fill up on the way back. I did and got the $2.71 price.
I can remember a couple years ago when the hurricane hit and gas prices went up to $3.00 and more and was mortified. Now I am happy to get it at $2.71, but also realize it will go higher.
I got used to it.
The Democrats are playing that game. Rep. Rangel put out his new tax "reform" plan with more and more taxes, but he assures us that it will be a more equitable distribution of the tax burden with more and more hitting the "rich".
With the "rich" paying more than three quarters of the total taxes, one wonders what the eventually "fair" distribution is. 80%... Maybe 90%. This is a question that is never answered.
But the ploy is to throw out these big tax increases, knowing that it won't be enacted right now, but we will get used to it and be very happy if the big tax increase comes in less than we feared.
So, get ready!
